Since the work is over a very large membrane surface area the pressure differential and required energy needs for filtration are low. Demonstration systems have shown an energy requirement of less than 2.5 kWh/m³. The expected lifespan of a membrane is now up to 10 years in comparison to 2 years for conventional technology.
