Im Bioreaktor müssen die Bakterien mit Sauerstoff und Nahrung versorgt werden. Die Nahrung ist  der BSB-Gehalt des Rohwassers. Der durchschnittliche BSB von Grauwassersystemen beträgt ca. 187,5 mg/l. Für die Behandlung ist eine bestimmte Menge Luft erforderlich.
